BALDWIN PARK — San Dimas leaned on its bruising rushing attack to take care of Baldwin Park, 38-28, in Thursday’s Valle Vista League game.
The Saints didn’t pass for any yards, they didn’t need to.
They piled up 374 yards on the ground to improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in league, improving their playoff chances with one game left in the regular season.
“I think it was just a team effort,” San Dimas coach Mark Holman said. “The (offensive) line stepped up and you can’t run the ball without the (offensive) line. I’m proud of all the guys that stepped up, it was basically a group effort running the ball tonight.”
The Saints’ Daniel Baeza led all rushers with 205 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns.
“I feel pumped up man,” Baeza said. “I just want to thank my linemen for executing. We’ve been working on that all week and I just love how we executed tonight.”

The Saints raced to a quick start.
Keenan Hoyt ran 33 yards on a reverse for a touchdown to put the Saints up, 7-0.
San Dimas running back Jacob Gallegos, normally the Saints’ top rusher, had piled up 50 rushing yards in the first quarter when he exited the game with a neck injury, and never returned.
But it didn’t slow the Saints.
Hoyt extended the Saints’ lead to 14-0 on a nine-yard touchdown run.
Baldwin Park stayed within reach, however. Quarterback Valentino May’s six-yard touchdown pass to Choyce Hampton cut the Saints’ lead in half.
But just before halftime, the Saints added a 24-yard field goal as time expired to extend their lead to 17-7 at the break.
The Braves came out with authority in the second half as May connected with Anthony Fields for a 65-yard touchdown to pull within, 17-14.

But just as quick, the Saints responded with Baeza’s 80-yard run to surge back ahead, and then Baeza scored again on a 48-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 31-14.
May’s third touchdown pass went to freshman Jacory Coleman for a 13-yard score to pull the Braves within 10 points.
But each time the Braves inched closer, the Saints had a response.
Hoyt’s 11-yard touchdown run gave the Saints a 38-21 lead, and that was more than enough.
Hampton’s one-yard touchdown run made the score closer for the Braves, but it was too late to come all the way back.
May completed 22 of 31 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns. Hampton ran for 68 yards and scored twice.
For Baldwin Park, it was another crushing defeat, falling to 4-5 and 0-4, and needing a win next week against Diamond Ranch to finish at least .500, where it would improve its chances of a longshot at-large berth into the playoffs.
It was Baldwin Park’s fifth straight loss after a 4-0 start.
Braves head coach Robert Maxie expressed how he hopes to close out the season.
“With a win,” Maxie said. “Obviously we want to win every week. We show up and prepare to win and hopefully next Thursday, senior night, we can end our season with a bang.”
